Steiff EAN 404115 28cm Fully Jointed, L/E Mohair Teddy Bear PB 28 - 1904 Replica. This very special and exceptional 1904 Replica bear is a Worldwide Limited Edition of only 7,000 pieces, and comes boxed with his own numbered certificate. The original PB 28 Bear celebrated his one hundredth birthday in 2004 and was measured (as was the tradition) in a seated position. Unlike his older brother PB 55 Bear, PB 28 was more technically advanced, being held together internally with metal rods, instead of cords and connections. He was registered by Steiff on December 5th 1904 as a "toy with moving limbs connected by a two-part wire of which the fastening sections are situated inside the body of the toy". A most innovative design. Like the original, this Replica is made from the finest, textured brown mohair with wool felted paw pads, and stuffed with wood shavings. He has expressive wooden black eyes. His long muzzle has been shaved and a sealing-wax nose appointed. It even has the same scratches and fingermarks from the original bear embedded into it. He wears Steiffs trademark "button in the ear" which for him is made from stainless steel and embossed with an elephant with an S - shaped trunk. The very first motif used for Steiff button trademarkers. His has a white tag with black print. Service washable. This piece is not a toy complying with the European directive covering toys (88/378/EEC/Appendix II).
