I actually haven’t blogged anything I’ve built for a few weeks so things have stacked up. a couple of things I’ve built I can’t talk about yet (bwahahaha). I did get to build the 10195 Republic Dropship and AT-OT. I actually built the one that was presented at Toyfair and got all those fantastic pictures of it (god I hope the stickers were on there right).
Itwas a fun build…I think…I was in such a rush to do it I think I cranked it out in 3 1/2 hours. Some of the people downstairs literally thought I had mixed a potion to make time stop, I think I really blew their minds. Sadly though, I haven’t leveled my alchemy up to nearly the level of being able to make the time stop potion yet, but that doesn’t mean I’ve given up trying.
The set itself is really great. The neck to the dropship is really complex and fun to build. I messed it up initially and the cockpit section just would work (lost a goood 10 minutes trying to fix it). The whole thing looks great though and is really big when its done. It does begger the question though about things of that scale and whether or not people will be able to buy it in the same way they would a UCS model thats all display piece lookin.
I think its worth the money. It’s basically a combo of the AT-TE and the Republic Gunship ($90 and $120 respectively). For only $40 more you get a more impressive bigger model. Some people have been complaining about the cost and I think its actually pretty close to being what it should be.
Anyways, I recommend it if you’re into Star Wars. I’m a big fan of the Episode II style clones and their equipment so this was a big coolness for me.

I am not complaining about the price; It’s just that my LEGO Wishlist is way to looooong already and I don’t have any money to spare for it.

sigh, yeah that’s certainly a malady this year that I totally understand.

Yeah, I think the price is perfect for it. I just plain can’t afford it. LOL

This is truly a beautiful set and I’d love to get it, but no, it’s definitely NOT worth the price and nothing you can say can justify it. You even pointed out yourself that it’s basically the same thing as the AT-TE and RGS, except it’s a needless $40 more expensive with NO unique figs or even piece molds from what I can see. The AT-TE and Gunship combined are nearly 100 pieces MORE than this set, for $40 less! It’s madness! That’s highway robbery if I’ve ever seen it. There is no justification for the price. None. Don’t even pretend there is just because you get perks from LEGO. $200 is much more reasonable, and anyone who would buy this set at full price is a fool with no self control. Just my opinion.

If you take a look at the price per piece on all of the sets released over the years, it tends to work out at an average of $.10/piece, give or take a few dollars. So a 345pc set, would run about $34.95, or a 1066pc set would run for $99.99. The UCS Millennium Falcon at 5195pcs goes for $499. This new set has 1758pcs and should be in the $169.99-189.99 range. My true feeling is that a price of $249.99, is way overpriced.

This is an awesome set and price is not an issue with me so I will definitely get this when it comes out.

Well it looks nice but…. it’s not UCS so lets hope the things you have built and can’t talk about are UCS since so far this year we havn’t got one yet.
