GL BABY

It helps that this guy is Green Lantern.  I really like anything to do with my favorite comic universe, but these guys are just fun.  I think the new Uni-formz guys are just a lot of fun.  I totally get that they’re just catching the ride with all of the vinyl like artistic toys and what not, but its still neat. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

There are some super man one’s too which I really dig.  I would really love to be a statue collector for stuff like this but its so danged expensive.  I was telling Matt (the owner of my local comic book shop) that I’d buy every piece of Ame-comi (pictured right) that came out if it wasn’t for the cost.  I use my wife as an excuse on those things sometimes, because its the easy way out.  “aw shucks, my wife won’t let me.”  In all honesty my wife is really cool about all my hobbies.  I have a Power Girl print in our living room for crying out loud, I must have the most understanding wife in the world (if you don’t know who Power Girl is you’re missing out).

Her main question anytime I want something new is “where are you going to put it?”  That’s usually enough to at least make me stop and think before blindly developing a new hobby (she wasn’t at my first nerf gun purchase…hence my current NERF storage problem).  I’m afraid it hasn’t always stopped me, but more times than not her abilitiy to see reason amidst my madness wins out.

I’ll be in Washington DC this weekend hanging out with WAMALUG, so I’ll be back on Monday.  Have a great weekend.

Alright, I’ve been doing a lot of building these last few months and I just wanted to give a brief review of 2009.  I want to give a quick review on my normal scale of “eww’”, “meh”, and “yay”.  As of today I’ve built:

All of Star Wars – YAY

Most of farm (except combine because its not in the store yet – YAY

All of Pirates – YAY (except the loot island one gets a MEH because I don’t like the spuddy baseplate thing)

a few creator sets – YAY (except green car which bored me)

Construction – YAY (except bulldozer, too fragile when you move the pusher thingy)

other than that, I’m still working my way through other stuff and 2009 is a snazzy LEGO year.  What’s your favorite stuff so far?

We have been meeting with the LEGO Certified Professionals all week and its been a lot of fun.  Jan Beyer (my European Counterpart and friend) has been ragging on me for not posting on my blog much lately, but I have simply been either traveling or asleep lately.  Jan says hi by the way.

The meeting has gone well and the LCPs are all heading home today or tomorrow.  Overall though, the Company Store was closed…so I think the meeting for them was probably a dissappointment.  Ah well, you can´t always get what you want : )

Anyways, I´ll be able to post more regularly next week…assuming anyone actually reads my drivel.  Have a great night!!!!

I was talking with my wife this morning and it came up that apparently Atlanta has passed Houston on the list of fattest cities in the US.  First off, congratulations to Houston for now being slightly less huge.  Secondly, after spending just a few days in Atlanta, I now see why you are such a fat town.

The food there was delicious.  I was super happy the entire time.  Well, kind of anyways.  After the first big dinner we had, I was perpetually full and only getting fuller from that point on.  I just wanted to keep eating though.  It was crazy.

Anyways, the event was fun and there were lots of crazy kiddos dressed up in crazy ways.  I enjoyed myself and even found a neat card game that I really enjoyed playing with everyone (Star Munchkin FTW).  It was a good time.  Overall glad to be home, but I really enjoyed hanging out with everyone there.  Now I’m on to hanging out with the LEGO Certified Professionals all week.  Means no raiding for me this week, but that’s alright, Ulduar will be there when I get back.

Apr 14

okay not really.  I’m in the office today and then I head out again on another trip tomorrow (FLL FTW).  This weekend was both Easter and my 1 year anniversary being married to my super cool lady Megan (hooray!).  We went down to Mystic, CT and hung out there for a few days.  We checked out the Aquarium (I now want a pet sea lion), Seaport, and ate good food.  It was raining on Friday and Saturday though, which should have dampened our spirits but it didn’t for some reason.  We hung out with sea lions in the rain :)

We did drive out to Foxwoods on Saturday night, which is a Casino about 10 miles from Mystic and one of Connecticuts two big Indian Casinos.  Lets just say that the size of the building was mind boggling.  It may very well have been the most impressive structure I’ve ever seen or been in.  From far away though it totally looks like a haunted mansion type place, except that its bright white and turquoise.  I still totally would have bought seeing huge lightening strikes behind it anytime there was a crazy revelation of any kind.

Anyways, I’m on the road again tomorrow so I’ll only be blogging intermittantly (I think I spelled that right).  Next week the LEGO Certified Professionals are in town, which is exciting as well.

Happy Easter to everyone.  For those of you who make it to church just once a year, set your alarms.   For those of you who are angry that I should wish a happy easter because you don’t practice it…well you can have the same days off as the rest of us…you’re welcome.

Anyways, its my wedding anniversary this weekend so we’ll be having a fun trip which I’m sure I’ll forget to tell you all about.  Either way everyone be safe and find something interesting to eat this weekend.

Apr 08

Then I must be awesome.  I eat all sorts of yummy things all the time.  I’m a big fan of chicken sandwiches, cheese fries, wings, pizza, tacos, and other good stuff.  How can I be anything but super cool with this litany of awesome following in my wake.

If you can’t tell, I just got back from lunch…and it was good.  We have a cafeteria on the LEGO campus and the nice lady that makes sandwiches makes my special concoction from memory now, which to me is the true sign of acceptance.  sadly, this afternoon I’ll go back to my workout class and probably throw the dang thing up.  /sigh

Apr 07

Apparently I’m going out of town again next week.  FLL World Festival FTW (for-the-win).  I’ll get to hang out with my deep south AFOL friends…and Mike Crowley…who is also cool.  We’ll have ourselves some nice models set up on the 2nd floor with the vendors so if you’re in the area you should come by.  It’ll be fun :)

So one of the cool things I get to do at this here company is build some of the upcoming sets before anyone else.  I have a cool working relationship with the Direct to Consumer Merchandising people who are responsible for exclusive product, and I get to build their samples when they come over here from Denmark.  I got to build the Green Grocer first and pretty much everything that came out after that.  Its really fun.  The only downside is that the instructions generally aren’t finished so I kill my eyes trying to tell brown and black apart on my computer screen (uh oh spoiler…an upcoming set has brown and black in it somewhere).

Anyways, the last thing on my mind is a question.  Why is Pink Lemonade better than yellow lemonade?

Apr 06

For those of you who are wondering…I’m not still doing laundry.  I just haven’t updated in a while which is silly of me.  BrickFest was a lot of fun though and wore me out quite thoroughly as most events do.  We had our first ever drunk build which was pretty impressive.  The German Gladiator (Holger Mathis) won out over our American Military man (Derek Schinn), but I will point out that the military man actually showed up the next day like nothing had happened and we didn’t see the German till about 5pm…we were glad he was okay at that point.

Lots of fun people this time around and again I killed whatever semblence of a diet I might have been on.  I did manage to eat at Chipotle 3 times during the trip, so overall I found BrickFest 2009 to be a rousing success.  Lots of great models and nice people.  I also added a couple of snazzy guns to my NERF collection, but more on that later.

When I got back I finally scored my “Twilight Vanquisher” title for my warrior in World of Warcraft.  For those of you who don’t know, there’re levels of dungeon raiding in WoW currently and the title I just got involves beating the hardst fight in game currently.  It just means that now I can be a little snobbier to other players when they point out my inefficiencies:  “HEY!  I have Twilight Vanquisher…Maybe the problem is YOU and not ME!!!!”

hehe, I loves it.
