So I get to spend tomorrow prepping for BrickFest and a big part of that is laundry.  I’m not a fan of doing laundry, especially since we don’t have machines in our apartment.  there’s a laundramat in the complex and it works well enough, but its still annoying.  I miss college…when I lived at home and did my laundry there.  yay for home!

Anyways, I’m off soon, it’ll be a fun weekend hope to see a bunch of you there.

So this weekend brings us BrickFest PDX 2009.  I remember 2007’s event well.  I ate at Red Robin so much I now won’t eat there anymore…I got yelled at by a hobo…overall a great time.  Lots of nice people too.  Portland is now one of those really cool cities that I don’t think I’d mind living in.  I guess I should visit it while its still above water  : /

So after lunch today everybody was talking about the polar ice caps melting and how we’re not going to last much longer on this planet…and that sort of bums me out.  I kind of like, you know, living and such.  I know that its probably only sort of bad and we’ll adapt to the new situation, but I mean come on, massive global flooding sounds annoying.

 fishy

Alright, so this was brought to my attention today by a colleague and its really cool.   There’s a woman in Japan named Sachiko who builds just the coolest stuff.  Some of it is new so its not completely accurate to the title I gave this post.  Check out her site though for some truly inspired and interesting stuff.

So I started doing this exercise class at work.  Its called the get fit challene, and there’s some weight loss competition component involved.  I don’t really know how it works because I couldn’t care less if I lose a lot of weight, I just don’t want to feel like my legs are going to atrophy from only sitting at a computer too much.

I get that I mostly sit at a computer for work and then I go home and play World of Warcraft, and frankly I like doing that, so I’m just trying to figure out how to not shrivel and die while doing that.  After typing that I realize that shrivel was a bad choice of words.  I imagine I would just get entirely too large if I cut out exercise completely.  If the muscle goes away though while the fat increases then I’m setting myself up for trouble.

Well that sure was a random ramble.

So I finally found the NERF gun that I have been in most love with since NorthWest BrickCon this last year.  Turns out its a Target exclusive in the N-strike line for 2009:

pew pew

Now my goal is to eventually have two of these in order to duel wield them, and hopefully I can find a way to get my hands on some more clips, but for now I’m just happy with the one I have.

I have a rule with myself when it comes to my toy addictions.  If I’m going to get into something like action figures or nerf I can only make one purchase a month.  currently I’m trying to catch up on the Green Lanter figures that I’ve missed (the actual GL line not the DCU Classics stuff, though that is also cool).  At this point they’re all like twenty bucks a pop and there’s at least five or six more that I need, so I’m just having to take it slow.

It seems like a reasonable thing to do as I like having money for things like food and stuff, but, come on…TOYS!

MINI

I just built the two mini’s that are currently part of the Target promotion and they rock.  There’s a V-19 and a General Grievous fighter.  nice little compact builds for a couple minutes time spent.  It just makes me miss the old mini’s line.  They were great as impulse items and if you just wanted a mass of a certain part.  I guess the whole idea of the MTT not selling may have turned them off (strange that a huge chunk of brown would sell, but a bite size one wouldn’t…but I don’t claim to know what people think).

Anyways, I love that they’ve made a come back through BrickMaster and other promotions.  They make me happy :)

So for all of you out there who might think that I have the most glamorous job I have come to give you some insight.  I build LEGO sets at work sometimes sure.  I even get to help come up with ideas for new sets and marketing ideas.  I’m here to tell you though that there’s a dark side to what I do…an ominous, dank, morose side that could bring all your illusions to a screeching halt.

That revelation?  I spend about a quarter of my week sometimes doing nothing but filling out shipping forms and packing boxes.  There…aren’t you dissallusioned now.

At least I have a future at UPS if I ever leave the LEGO Group.

I mean really really good.  The company is in good shape.  I just came from the “pep rally” meeting where we got the whole US unit together and the VPs talked about the 2008 results.  It was really good…so YAY!

Anyways, I always find I still have the same tendancies I had when I was in middleschool any time I get into these big meetings.  If I see a pen I immediately start drawing, and if I don’t have paper I draw on myself.  I got ribbed by my colleagues who were up in the balcony.  sigh…I’m such a nerd.

So I’ve been on a bit of a Battlestar Galactica kick of late.  I got season 1 for my birthday last October and my wife and I have been picking up seasons as we finish some others.  Well, we just finished the first 10 episodes of season 4, so now we’re stuck waiting for the series to finish on TV so we can buy the last half of season 4.

I’m so obsessed with wanting to know what’s going to happen though that I keep looking at wikipedia and the sci-fi site to see glimpses.  Its one thing that frustrates me about the internet now.  Yes any information I could ever want is right there at my fingertips…and the bad part is that ALL the information I could ever want is right there at my fingertips.  Especially when it comes to something like a TV show or a comic I’m only reading in graphic novels.

If you have a weakness for story like I do, this is a major problem when you also want to save yourself for when you finally get to sit down and watch the show.  Yeah you can say that I could just watch them online, but then what’s the point of buying the DVD’s and frankly, my collector mentality will not let me buy all but the last set of ANYTHING.

Oh well, at least the show ended up being really good.  I keep telling myself I want to build the galactica and then reminding myslef what a stupid big project that would be.  At the end of the day though, what’s the point of having a lot of LEGO bricks if you’re not going to use it for something :)
